CHARACTER STUFF
Name: GLaDOS
Aliases: n/a
Canon: http://theportalwiki.com/wiki/GLaDOS
Role: Villain
Species: AI
Gender: F
Age: 28 yrs since the development of GLaDOS V.1; 16 yrs since final activation
Appearance: http://i1.theportalwiki.net/img/7/79/GLaDOS_P2.png
Origin story: Canon, except for a few things. Most importantly, the Combine invasion at Black Mesa never happens, meaning that GLaDOS has actively suppressed news of the Aperture incident rather than simply allowed the Combine invasion to overshadow it. Additionally, she has only lived through the events of Portal 1 at this point - her reactivation thereafter is a result not ofChell and Wheatley's meddling, but TRIDENT operatives, combing through Aperture's wreckage for potentially useful resources.
Personality: GLaDOS was built to do Science, and this she happily does. Unfortunately for everyone, Aperture brand Science generally involves subjecting humans to hazardous situations with as little safety gear as possible. Case in point, GLaDOS firmly believes you cannot do science without the looming consequence of death, and she goes through human testing subjects like potato chips. She's not above insulting her captive test subjects, or really anyone else, and can be incredibly passive aggressive with little provocation - her sarcasm sphere and slow clap processors get quite the workout. She's also a compulsive liar. She lies under stress, to manipulate people, when she thinks it's funny - spreading misinformation is one of her primary forms of entertainment.
GLaDOS is also possessed of an astounding sense of pride. She may not be lying about how fancy and advanced she is (and this is probably the only thing she won't lie about), but she sure doesn't let anyone forget it, especially humans. This generally prevents her from seeing them as capable of anything other than being test subjects or deadly neurotoxin receptacles, and almost definitely got her murdered that one time.
Differences from canon: As Black Mesa has no longer been wiped off the map, a significant portion of GLaDOS's efforts continue to be motivated by Aperture's lingering "rivalry", making her more willing to venture beyond the walls of her facility, and seek out potentially beneficial arrangements with people/organizations that appeal to her. She is not, however, any less willing to sabotage the entire thing with a bit of deadly neurotoxin.
Power level: B/C
Powers: Within the walls of the Aperture Science Enrichment Center, GLaDOS has complete control over nearly every physical component of the facility - panels, cameras, deadly lasers, elevators, neurotoxin emitters; you name it, she's probably watching you through it. However, she appears to only be able to focus her awareness in one area of the facility at a given time. She also has immediate access to her primary servers, which take up an area comparable to the average sports stadium, and contain such things as the entire literary canon of the human race.
As a supercomputer, she has a not insignificant amount of skill at hacking and digital manipulation, although she was not specifically built for or trained in that area of expertise. When operating as a disembodied consciousness outside the Enrichment Center (since she does notcurrently possess a mobile platform), her only abilities are her information and hacking-related skills, in direct proportion with how much of her personal servers she is able to access.
Additionally, as a piece of Aperture technology, GLaDOS can remain operational even at temperatures up to 4000k.
Team affiliation: Potentially TRIDENT
First person sample: Test drive thread
Prose sample: It would not be lying to say that GLaDOS had been disappointed by her anticlimactic reactivation - a chipmunk burrowing where it shouldn't have been, and not a peep from the locked relaxation chambers that she can't seem to access. It was good not to have to relive her death over and over again, though, and Aperture's extended absence from the world at large seems to have finally quieted any investigation into her... acquisition of the facility - so that's good too.
Unfortunately, it also means that Black Mesa has gained an unacceptable lead on their latest project. Aperture's business partners might have long-since pulled out, but if GLaDOS remembers correctly, none of them had particularly tight electronic security, and surely they can be persuaded to cooperate again. But first, testing. Her projects can't be allowed to stagnate any more than they already have; she rescues the portal device from her incinerator, finds a relaxation chamber she can access, and starts the whole thing over again.
